What I read
Finished The Verifiers, which did pick up momentum, maybe I might try the next one? but not immediately.
The latest Literary Review.
Candice Carty-Williams, Queenie Is Working On It (2026) - okay, I was actually expecting this to go somewhere it didn't (that fertility clinic being a sleazy operation which terrifies women with *DECLINING FERTILITY* to upsell them on treatments, IVF, etc etc) which was probably genre misreading? (so much genre mixing it up these days....) but I didn't like it as much as Queenie. Thought it leant on some motifs that were rather stock conventions.
Had been thinking about for some time for some reason, and managed to find on my shelves (WIN), my aged Ace Double copy of Suzette Haden Elgin's The Communipaths (1970). Gosh, it's rather plonky. And Sooooo 1970 with the Maklunites who are idealised hippy commune In Spaaace.
Definitely having 'probably not them, it's me' feeling about current reading there.
On the go
However, I have plucked off the shelf Pamela Dean, Juniper, Gentian and Rosemary (1998), which I have not read in since forever, and it's absolutely hitting the spot.
Up next
Absolutely no idea. Oh, maybe The Dubious Hills???
